Think i have roids!

Postby ketchuptaco » Mon Jul 13, 2009 5:22 pm

Ok, well a few months ago i had a bloody bowel movement.. well more blood on the toilet paper than in the bowl. I freaked out and went to emergency to find out i had a fissure. i was prescribed a cream and told by the doctor there is a GOOD chance this will re occur. And 2 weeks ago it it did. I once again passed a hard stool i had to strain to get out and bled once again. Only this time instead of healing in a couple of days the pain/itching/discomfort has gotten progressively worse. I am going to the doctor tomorrow (if i can get in) and am awaiting the news i have hemmroids or a fissure that has gotten infected or something. Either way, i have been eating well. lots of fiber lots of water, not too much sitting, enough exercise. i am at wits end. tthe itching burning and pain is more prevalent just after a bowel movement for up to an hour after. the pain will go away and ill just be left with an itch and the sensation that something is there (not so much internally but rather at the entrance of the rectum) there has been no bleeding since , just this terrible discomfort) O h well.. needed to vent :(

Thanks a lot for the reply. I went to the doctor yesterday and confirmed i do in fact have hemmhroids. I guess anyone at any age can get them, i'm 27 myself and relatively healthy. I was given suppositories (sp?) to use.
I have eliminated the constipation and have been going regularly for i would say approx a week. The pain has worn down a bit, but i still get itchy/burny after a bowel movement. Sometimes the burning is so intense it literally "throbs" this usually passes in an our or two. My only concern with the suppositories is that in the past my anus goes in to spasm and literally forced them out, so it will be interesting to see if i can "hold them down" Doc said i should be ok in a week, i certainly hope so. 2 weeks of this has been extremely "sh*tty" pun intended.

No worries buddy. You did the right thing by getting the diagnosis. I was 27 as well when I had bleeding and the doctor performed the flexible sigmoidoscopy on me. It was revealed to be 'roids. I have slight bleeding every few months or so. In fact, I had some this morning. What works for me are fiber cereals and nice green salads as they tend to bulk up the stools and make them softer. Also, try preparation-H medicated wipes. They really help to cool and clean the area after BM's.

I have worked at the National Cancer Institute for 9 years so you can imagine what I thought I had when I saw the blood. 9 times out of 10, rectal bleeding is caused by something minor. You can sleep well knowing you got a proper diagnosis.
